How To Buy A Domain Name
Ed Zivkovic
Printer-Friendly Format

To buy your own domain name, you will need to register it at your favorite domain name registrar.

In most cases, you will need to open a free account with the domain name registrar. You will use this account to manage one or hundreds of domain names.

Your account profile will contain all the necessary details (like name, email, address etc) to own a domain name. This information must be kept up-to-date at all times.

For the purpose of this article, we will use namecheap.com.

Go to namecheap.com, enter the name you would like to register and click search.

Keep searching until you find a domain name that is available.

Point Your Domain Name To Your Web Host

You should ensure that your domain name points to your web hosting company. This can be done by setting the Default Name Server Settings from the Checkout Settings menu, or during the registration process.

The domain name server addresses should be available from your web hosting company. In most cases, the DNS addresses are supplied immediately after purchasing a web hosting account.
